Renato Scuzzarello is a highly qualified and experienced Italian Police Officer who has successfully managed the CKP Italtrend EU Funded CARDS "Programme to Support the BiH Police Forces" through its first three phases from 2002 to 2006. After qualifying from the Military Academy in Modena and Carabinieri Officers School in Rome, where he studied for a Diploma between 1968 and 1972, he began distinguished 34 year career with the Italian Carabinieri. During his police career, he improved his education gaining a Law Degree at Roma University (1972- 9) and a Degree in International and Diplomatic Sciences at Trieste University (2002-03). During his Carabinieri career, he held a range of officer ranks and tasks, being the commanding officer for La Spezia Carabinieri , a department of the Mounted Regiment, Head of Operations, Training, Information & Regulations, Carabinieri Commander in Pistoia Province, Battalion Commander in Sardegna and Chief of staff for the Carabinieri Region in Piemonte.
During this service and with this vast managerial experience behind him he became the Section Director of the Europol National Unit in Italy. During his police service he also provided international support on behalf of the Carabinieri in Estonia , Poland and Russia .
In 1998 he served as Deputy Head of Mission for the Temporary International Presence in Hebron (Palestine). Then in 1999, he was selected to be the Commander of the SFOR - Multinational Specialized Unit in BiH, a regiment, composed of policemen and soldiers from different Countries, brought into the Balkans to support peace and security in the area.
Returning to Italy in 2000, he took over the role of Divisional Director of the Criminal Police-Central Protection Service, being responsible for the management of witnesses and informants and their relatives, providing security and assistance.
Then in 2002, he was seconded from the Carabinieri to join the CKP/Italtrend Project as Team Leader for the BiH Police Project, where he continued to work to date.
Mr Scuzzarello retired from the Carabinieri Service at the rank of General in January 2007.
